Borkum Light Week by Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH was a complete success
The Borkum Light Week “Lücht up Börkum”, which was held for the second time in 2021, ended on Sunday – and was once again a magnet for visitors. For six evenings, the NBG, in cooperation with the light artists Kystlys, illuminated special buildings in colorful lights. The selected buildings this year included the town hall, the Maria Meeresstern Catholic Church, the New Lighthouse, the Great Cape, the water tower with the new water museum, the Hotel Rummeni, the foyer and the music pavilion. In addition to the visual highlight, the gastronomic offering was also very popular with all visitors. At the Großer Kaap, for example, the Borkumer Jungs eV association served beer and mushroom pan, the Hotel Rote Erde provided all kinds of mulled wine at the New Lighthouse, in front of the town hall the Borkum Volunteer Fire Department offered bratwurst in addition to beer, and at the Hotel Rummeni on the boules court there was In addition to a large selection of drinks and bratwurst, a warming soup and at the music pavilion, the restaurateurs on the promenade proved to be excellent hosts. Thanks to the valuable collaboration with all the clubs, companies and participants involved, every evening offered a special atmosphere. Musically, it was supported, for example, by the Borkum men's choir on the Großer Kaap, by a performance by the band "Marlons Room" on the boules court and by the conclusion of the spa music "Music & Sea" with the dance agents on Sunday evening in the music pavilion.
“We are very happy that the Borkum Light Week was so well received by the people of Borkum and guests this year. “It was clear that the food and drinks were mostly sold before the end of the event,” says Pia Hosemann, deputy tourism director. “We would like to thank all local partners who actively supported our Light Week and who, together with us, not only brought bright colors into the evening, but also created a very special feel-good atmosphere. What was particularly nice this year was the opportunity to visit some of the illuminated buildings from the inside. “The offer was actively taken up,” adds Hosemann.
Many of the colorful impressions found their way onto social media channels and so Borkum shined not only on the island, but also at home for those who were unable to watch the series of events in person.
The NBG decided to keep the Borkum Light Week in the autumn months as a basic tourist offer. The Federal Ministry of Economics allows illuminations as part of cultural and folk festivals. As in the previous year, energy-saving LED lights were used to accentuate the illumination of buildings and monuments illuminated every hour on a daily basis (in this case one building per evening for 3,5 hours each), the majority of which were powered by batteries. In addition, the duration of lighting was shortened compared to the previous year. Fully charging all around 200 LED lamps resulted in energy costs of around €0,95 per evening.
