On October 28.10.2019, XNUMX, Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH (NBG) invited people to an information event on the cultural island.
The main topic was the new marketing and communication concept with the presentation of the new Borkum logo. After a welcome from the managing director of the NBG, Mr. Göran Sell, Martin Schobert from tourismusdesign and Hannes Haller from Saint Elmo's Tourismusmarketing explained the development of the new logo. Trendy colors, clear shapes and a meaningful core message characterize the new logo. The whale fluke, as a defining feature and historical reference, leaves room for interpretation, such as bird wings, a hammock or an arrow pointing to the name BORKUM.
The new marketing strategy is intended to focus primarily on the early and late season, March 15.03th. until 15.06. and 15.09. until 31.10. lively, i.e. times when the businesses on the island are open anyway and the necessary infrastructure is “in place” on the island. There was no mention in the concept presented of a further extension of the seasons, as was misinterpreted by some of those present. Unfortunately, there were only about 120 interested people present, but they discussed constructively and mostly rated the logo and concept positively. A certain spirit of optimism was noticeable in the audience, which was expressed in the call to look forward together, to talk to each other and not about each other, to have the courage for something new and to implement it together. The request was also made not to tear up the presented concept on Facebook etc., as has happened with other topics in the past, and not to talk badly about it without really having dealt with it.
Göran Sell concludes: “If you recognize the Fluke as Borkum without the word “BORKUM” or the statement “Breathe Freedom” without the word Borkum, then we have managed to successfully establish the logo.”
