The redesign of Bismarck Park, supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), is in the initial preparatory work. It is carried out by Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH. Until the noise protection regulations begin on June 1, 2021, some of the cleared areas will be covered with loop panels so that the restaurateurs based on Bismarckstrasse can use them as additional outdoor space, as they did in 2020.
The construction work is expected to take around a year and will be completed in spring 2022. The park will shine in new splendor on around 2.200m² with a green area with typical island plants such as marram grass and sea buckthorn bushes and represent an ecological upgrade. By adapting to weather conditions such as wind and dryness, there is little maintenance required. Additional seating options invite you to linger. The Nordseeheilbad Borkum is involved in the project with its “Technical Service and Beach Maintenance” department and the municipal utilities segment. Personnel and technical support for the project comes from the city of Borkum.
The funding application was approved in June last year and was awarded a maximum funding rate of 200.000 euros. The total project amount is expected to be around 350.000 euros. At the beginning of 2020, Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH and the commissioned landscape architecture firm Horeis+Blatt invited residents and interested Borkum residents to a joint workshop to discuss wishes and recommendations.
