The new internet application from the Ostfriesische Insel GmbH “FRIDA” and the mobile phone application “luca” will be important building blocks for the opening of the island. While FRIDA takes care of reservations and visitor guidance, registration and tracking of possible corona cases takes place via luca.
The renewed lockdown over Easter led to disappointment for many people in Borkum. Easter business was canceled for the second time after the island remained empty over Christmas and New Year's Eve. The islanders' reserves are coming to an end. In order for the livelihood of “tourism” to take place again, scenarios must be created that make traveling to Borkum possible while taking the corona pandemic into account. “Tourism is the livelihood of all islanders. In order to achieve an opening, we have to offer solutions,” confirms Göran Sell, Managing Director of Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH and Ostfriesische Insel GmbH. These solutions include the FRIDA web app and the luca mobile app.
FRIDA As a reservation tool, it supports restaurateurs, hoteliers, retailers with appointment requirements and tourism service providers in directing visitors and registering visitors. Reservations for restaurant visits or sightseeing will be possible in digital bundles after a one-time registration. If a restaurant is fully booked, this will be displayed. “The advantage is obvious,” confirms Göran Sell. “Our guests can choose alternatives online at any time. Temporally or spatially. This results in a better distribution of guests on the island and disappointments are avoided.” The participating service providers receive a daily email about the current status of the reservations, and the guest receives a reminder. Lists can be exported to track infection chains and transmitted to health authorities. In addition, participating companies have the opportunity to use the application as an online travel guide for guests by presenting their business with photos and text. The application is free for all service providers on the island. A special advantage for the guest: neither app installation nor registration is necessary.
But even though FRIDA offers a lot, its success depends primarily on the participation of local service providers.
For all companies that do not offer online time reservations or for which advance reservations are not necessary, it is recommended to offer contact tracking via the LUCA app.
With the data protection-compliant and anonymized mobile phone app luca Contact details in private and public areas can be tracked seamlessly and thus stop chains of infection. The health department in the Leer district is connected to the luca app and is an important piece of the puzzle for a possible opening of the island. With user, host and health department, luca has three interfaces and the application is very uncomplicated. After downloading from the app store and registering, the contact details and the QR code are generated. This code can be used every time you enter restaurants, shops, churches and much more. be scanned. The luca can also be used for private gatherings. The cumbersome bureaucracy with countless pieces of paper, which has been criticized in many places, is no longer necessary. The host should also have the app. When entering a location, the user scans the QR code of the respective host. If the customer leaves the restaurant, he or she is automatically logged out.
If an infection occurs, the affected “luca users” will be informed immediately.
“The Ostfriesische Insel GmbH, the NBG and the city of Borkum urge all tourism partners on the island to register with luca and FRIDA in order to be well prepared for a possible opening,” says Göran Sell.
