The Nordsee Aquarium To mark its 10th anniversary, Borkum hosted "Shark Day" last Saturday – and around 500 visitors accepted the invitation. Together with SHARKPROJECT Germany and the Friends of the Island, Nordsee Aquarium Borkum spent a whole day dedicated to these fascinating, but often misunderstood, sea predators.
Guests were able to learn about the importance of sharks to the marine ecosystem and experience the importance of their protection. A diverse program generated enthusiasm: hourly short presentations on topics such as the role of sharks in nature, diving with sharks, and plastic in the ocean, an activity area on the senses of sharks, a detailed shark model, live observations of catsharks and their egg capsules, and numerous hands-on activities for children, including painting and craft activities, a shark quiz with prizes, and a question-and-answer session with a wheel of fortune.
A special highlight was the joint fundraising campaign: Thanks to the generous support of the guests and Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH, a donation was made to SHARKPROJECT Germany eV. This will support the important work to protect sharks and their habitats.
