Over the Pentecost days this year, Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH was able to look forward to an island noticeably full for the first time this year as part of the Corona regulation. The weeks in which tourism operations were temporarily at a standstill due to the island's lockdown and the resulting complete lack of income are finally over. The regulations, which are now updated every two weeks, allow for gradual relaxations in the use of infrastructure. The NBG is working hard to implement this into opening up the tourist infrastructure. “We are trying to provide the guests currently on the island with the widest possible range of offerings. However, ramping up our numerous offers also takes some time. We are doing our best here,” explains Göran Sell, Managing Director of NBG.

The Gezeitenland was able to start physiotherapeutic treatments again a few weeks ago and has now been able to expand the offering to include fitness and course areas while adhering to strict hygiene and distance regulations. Courses will initially take place exclusively “on land” and, due to the distance regulations, in the larger rooms of the tennis hall, culture island and in the outdoor area of the adventure pool. The sauna and the bathroom must remain closed for the time being. The opening of indoor swimming pools has generally been permitted again since Monday. However, after the closure phase, permits must be issued for reopening. “First of all, we need approval from the health department for the required water quality in bathing and industrial water, the results of which can only arrive in up to 14 days after sampling. We are therefore currently planning to open at the beginning of the summer holidays, i.e. at the end of June. Even then, if there is still an upper capacity limit and the resulting lack of income, we will not be able to financially manage regular operations with full staff and will therefore only open at a reduced rate, but still in line with needs," says Sell. “There is still a lack of clear statements from the state regarding sauna operations.” This must also be the case in physiotherapy Gezeitenland suffer significant losses. Due to existing hygiene regulations, only a fraction of the usual treatments have been carried out to date. Wellness treatments are not yet allowed to be offered.

When it comes to events, especially “Music & Sea”, everyone involved must continue to be patient. According to the current Corona regulation, outdoor events are possible, but only if they take place in a fenced area with a maximum of 250 seated people from whom the data must be collected. The basis for the number of people is the size of the promenade or the event radius. Göran Sell: “We cannot currently create these conditions on the promenade. But we hope that the next Corona regulation will provide for appropriate relaxations so that we can start on June 23rd.” Events in closed rooms, especially on the Kulturinsel, are also currently not permitted.

The Tourist Information, however, has extended its opening hours. In addition to the normal opening hours Monday to Friday from 10.00 a.m. to 13.00 p.m., it is now also open from 15.00 p.m. to 17.00 p.m. In addition, the counter will be open every Saturday from 10.00 a.m. to 13.00 p.m. until the holidays. The Tourist Information can be reached by telephone from 08.30:13.00 a.m. to 14.00:17.00 p.m. and from 10.00:13.00 p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. The guest contribution box is still on site Monday to Friday from XNUMX a.m. to XNUMX p.m.

After the NBG beach and properties department recently built the DLRG stations, the beach volleyball field on the south beach and some beach clean-up work, the last benches towards the south beach have now been freed from sand. At the beginning of the summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, supervised bathing will be possible at the nudist beach.
