Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH works together with islanders and guests
The new regulation of the North Sea Navigation Ordinance (NordSBefV) must not lead to a worsening of the conditions for the island.
The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has presented a draft amendment to the regulation on driving on federal waterways in national parks in the North Sea area. The changes also affect the area around Borkum and thus the island's tourist offerings. Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH (NBG) is using the planned new regulations as an opportunity to point out important aspects of island life and the tourism industry on Borkum.
“Nature and culture have to work together. The living Borkum wind and water sports culture must not be disproportionately pushed back in favor of nature,” says Göran Sell, Managing Director of Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH (NBG). “Wind and water sports represent an attractiveness criterion not only for Borkum, but for numerous travel destinations surrounding us in the tourist competition. He is a figurehead for our island and an important part of our Borkum brand. Not only for our guests in terms of the quality of stay and experience, but also for islanders in terms of quality of life and securing sustainable jobs. New regulations should be viewed uniformly and fairly, ie regardless of the federal state for the entire North Sea national park area. It is important to make the new regulation between sports offerings and protection zones with a sense of proportion. A sensible weighing process is required that realistically takes into account the requirements of the sports offering and the need to maintain local protection zones. The new regulation of the NordSBefV must not lead to a worsening of the conditions for the island,” appeals Sell.
