Island workshop and youth workshop on November 4th, 2017 in the Kulturinsel.
After the well-attended public launch of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) with around 250 participants at the end of August, things are now becoming more concrete. The main focus at the moment is on planning considerations for the Reede district. All interested citizens are invited to the Kulturinsel on Saturday, November 4th from 10.00 a.m. to 16.00 p.m. to get involved in the planning process. Frank Schlegelmilch from the commissioned planning office BPW baumgart+partner emphasizes: “Inselwerkstatt sounds like creative work and that’s what it should be. Together we want to put our heads together to exchange ideas, discuss concrete measures and record ideas with pen and paper.” At the opening event, current developments and initial approaches such as the design of the “secret promenade” as a dike path or the establishment of a weather radar tower were discussed presented with a viewing platform.
Those present then had the opportunity to vote on what uses they wanted for the roadstead and what character the district should have in the future. Clear trends could be seen: There should be new living space on the roadstead, especially for Borkum residents and seasonal workers. Events, information centers and maritime businesses are also conceivable. For the future, most participants wanted a maritime anchorage that was lively and diverse. There were voices for a modern and exciting harbor as well as for comfort and tradition.
“We are counting on the active participation of the citizens of Borkum and therefore on exciting ideas and suggestions for further development planning in the area of the roadstead,” emphasizes Göran Sell, managing director of the city’s business operations NSHB Borkum GmbH
