After recent quiet and consistent years in the HR department, there has already been an important change this year and more will follow in the coming years. Due to parental leave and the associated happiness as a mother, the management of the tourist information office will be temporarily filled until at least the beginning of 2024. “Creating a temporary solution for such a long period of time is a challenge. “But I am confident that we will find one, because there is an agreement between politicians, the city administration and the NBG that the company’s focus in the tourism sector should be further strengthened in the future,” says NBG managing director Göran Sell. His position will also be vacant from 2024. Then, after ten years in this position, Sell will no longer be available for another appointment period as things stand. “I will then be 53 years old, and at the end of another extension I will be 58 years old. This is an age where the likelihood of a career change is rather low. For me, the question now arose as to whether I would hold the position of NBG managing director until I retire.” Sell cites the existing connection with the filling of the other management positions as the reason for the decision, which should only have been made later in tourism as well as the necessary calm when recruiting new staff. “When I joined the company in 2014, interim management was required for almost nine months. The position of tourism director was also vacant in the company for almost nine months in 2014. For over a decade, the average length of service for marketing management was less than two years. All of this is an expression of the opposite of a strong, continuous positioning. At the same time, it shows that it takes time to find good and suitable staff, which will then have an impact on the company in the long term. That’s why I’ve already decided to take this step,” says Sell. Sell informed the city and supervisory boards as well as the NBG employees about this decision last week.
