Press release – Nature conservation: Krischan-Wolters-Pad may no longer be cleared

On instructions from the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration | February 1, 2022

The Krischan-Wolters pad, which is widely used by Borkumer and guests and extends from the “Heimliche Liebe” restaurant to the entrance to the “Schwarzen Deich”, is no longer allowed to be cleared for nature and dune protection reasons. The federal waterways and shipping administration informed the city of Borkum and the NBG about this.
By skipping the clearance work, the dune base should be secured and the protective dune protected from demolition. “Last year we had to accept such a decline that can still be seen today. Since the path is very popular with walkers, sanding it with no alternative is not an option,” says Göran Sell, managing director of the NBG. “The city and the NBG will therefore try to find an alternative route together with the waterways and shipping authority.
