New design and technical progress - thanks to the NBank's commitment to the funding amount of around EUR 18.400 Nordsee Aquarium Borkum has received a digital and optical renovation costing around EUR 23.000 in the past few weeks.
First, the information signage on the tanks was replaced by touch pads that display the animals' respective information. A large monitor in the multifunctional room is intended to replace the flood of signs in the rooms. To this end, the existing exhibition focused on aquarium tanks is to be supplemented and enriched with large-scale digital moving images, particularly of the underwater world around Borkum, as well as digital-based interactive forms of experience in the current multifunctional room. The screen also offers the option of providing digital information regarding the main exhibition and other sustainability-related topics. “The multifunctional room was previously underused and needed to improve the quality of stay. “Through increased use, we can increase the number of visitors by 50 percent, which means we can partially offset the loss in sales caused by the corona pandemic,” explains NBG managing director Göran Sell.
In addition to the digital redesign, the aquarium is also evolving in design. The entire external presentation with signage, website and logo will adapt to the new corporate design of the island family, which has been current since October 2019.
“Thanks to the funding programs that were launched due to the corona pandemic, we are able to make the island more digital and therefore more contemporary. With the digital guest card, the information steles at various locations on the island, the chatbots on Facebook and the website as well as the technical adjustments in the aquarium, we have taken many important steps on the long path this year. We look forward to many more exciting projects,” says Sell.
