Starting Monday, March 23, 2026, Nordseeheilbad Borkum GmbH will begin horizontal drilling to secure the seawater supply. This infrastructure project will run from the Strand- und Liegenschaften workshop on Von-Frese-Straße to groyne 24 near the "Heimliche Liebe" (Secret Love) restaurant.
The new seawater pipeline addresses the increasing changes in the coastal area. The aim is to ensure a stable seawater supply in the long term, independent of these changes. The existing intake point below the GezeitenlandIt is increasingly affected by siltation and can no longer guarantee a sustainable supply.
The 260-meter-long pipeline will be laid beneath the dunes and the promenade. This method allows for installation without any surface disturbance.
Following successful completion of the drilling, the construction of a pumping station is planned on Von-Frese-Straße, on the grounds of the beach management office. From there, the seawater will be fed into the existing pipeline system and transported to the boiler house on Bubertstraße for treatment.
“A stable seawater supply is fundamental for Borkum as a health resort,” says tourism director Pia Hosemann. “With this new solution, we are preparing for changing conditions on the coast in the long term.”
The work should be coordinated so that it is completed before the noise protection regulations come into effect.
