In December of this year, the NBG will be making an important system change as part of its digitalization strategy. Guest registrations, digital guest cards and better control options are intended to make work processes and preparations for the holiday easier for hosts, guests and the city. The project is part of the funding pot “Digitization of the information and service offerings of the tourism service” and is financed with funds from the state of Lower Saxony with a funding rate of 80 percent.
Digital guest card
In the future, landlords who register their guests online will be able to issue a digital guest card by email. This can also be saved on your cell phone or printed out at home. This new service is to be expanded step by step as a value-added card for the guest, so that the attractiveness and holiday comfort increase.
Easier online guest registration for landlords
The landlords receive access to an easy-to-use area to create the digital guest card. With the help of the pre-check-in link, the data can be requested in advance in a simple manner - no separate email is required, the link can easily be integrated into the booking confirmation. There is also the option to make pre-registrations up to a year in advance. Not only “small” landlords benefit from all of these advantages, hotels, clinics and management agencies can also rely on the system’s various interface connections to PMS (Hotel Property Management System).
Better control options
Digitalization not only has advantages for the landlord and the guest, it also makes future processes easier for the city and its subsidiary, the NBG. By scanning the QR code printed on the digital guest cards, the validity of the guest card is checked quickly and easily at the NBG checkout and entrance areas. Additional checks can be carried out anywhere by guest contribution inspectors using mobile testing devices.
“Our goal is to offer the guest attractive added value with the services included in the digital guest card and to simplify and facilitate registration for the landlord, thereby increasing guest contribution honesty. The paper registration forms should be significantly reduced with online registration in order to conserve natural resources and use work capacity sensibly. For example in controls and expansion of the value-added card.
Our guests should be provided with a modern, digital guest card, which an attractive holiday destination like Borkum must offer its guests in order to remain attractive as a holiday destination and also meets the strict requirements with regard to data protection,” says Pia Hosemann, deputy tourism director of the NBG.
With the system change to the “Deskline” program from feratel media technologies GmbH, NBG has found a professional partner who provides excellent support for the digitization of the guest card and has several years of experience in the areas of reporting, card systems and destination management systems and who successfully supports comparable holiday destinations.
Change of booking system to tourist information and expansion of adventure shop
The NBG will also switch to Deskline with the tourist information sales and reservation system in order to meet the requirements of the modern and digital rental business and to offer interested guests an attractive online accommodation search.
The city's subsidiary also wants to offer landlords a modern reservation platform for their accommodation sales, which also makes data maintenance easier through various interface connections to reservation systems and offers some interesting sales tools. This includes, for example, placing the accommodation on various sales channels, such as Booking, Airbnb or similar providers.
“All landlords will be informed during the course of November about the further process of the system conversion and training opportunities for data maintenance. You are welcome to register in advance now www.borkum.de/digital/ Register to receive all information regarding the planned digitalization and to be up to date about future projects. We look forward to taking the pioneering path towards digitalization together with our tourism service providers,” said Hosemann. “The entire process will be a major effort for the entire team at the tourist information office, the guest contribution fund and the city administration. Thanks to the great preparatory work, we can implement the project so quickly.”
